Angus came 3rd today in the Under 10s race at Ilkley Cyclo Cross. What made it so special is that it was a relatively large field and he had to fight for it. Realizing he was in with a wiff of the podium after he made the first corner in the top 10 or so, he picked his way through and held onto 3rd place for the 2nd final lap, digging deep. He was so delighted, absolutely buzzing. He won a bottle and a Buff and had his name called out on the loud speaker when he received his prize. Proud Dad did not do so well in the veterans, he broke his bike on the last lap, but nonetheless finished with a smile. Happy day in the frost and sun.

Yesterday morning I got up early, very early, with Richard B and David J (& Polly) and headed up to Rosset Ghyll near Bowfell in Langdale to watch the sunrise - and to support a winter attempt by Richard Seipp on the Bob Graham round. We made the top of Rosset Cragg by 7 and were down just after 10. Sublime.

Just before Christmas Arkholme villagers made it to the summit of the great hill, this year in mild weather for a change. Matt loves his Rugby. Recently he joined LRGS secondary school - a great rugby school -and has made it to the A team including a spell as captain. He has been all over he north of England playing since he started in September, we are very proud. We have just done the 3 peaks and this year is was a special one, 3 peaks with four cousins competing, with Mark (from New Zealand) and Adrian (from Southampton) joining old timers Dave and I. It was a special family event with all 4 finishing, despite various adventures - you can read all about it on their own blogs...

We are just back in the UK following 2 weeks camping on the Costa Brava in Spain. Snaps from the iPhone were updated regularly (thanks to some free wireless at the Campsite) and now we have just uploaded the 'quality' images too - the full set can be viewed here. Highlights include meeting many new friends and families, spending time with Andy, Caroline and Archie who joined us for a few days in the middle, kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, trip to the water park and a trip to Barcelona. The sun and the sea also proved a great convalescence for my leg. A great holiday, faultless.

Helen has always had a thing about elephants. Today she saw them for real the first time at Chester Zoo, on a day trip to meet up with the Ebners, our friends from Devon. I shared a special 28 hours away walking with my brother Dave and cousin Adrian staying at Patterdale Hall with 8 other good friends as part of a long standing annual tradition. This year we were in the Lakes, convenient for me and the sun shone down on us. Added bonus was catching up with childhood friend Steve Honeyman on ths saturday night - last seen 20 years ago. Recently we organized a event in the village hall which meant I had an excuse to play a bit of rock and roll on stage with my brother and friends - always a good time. The children stayed and supported us with all sorts of dance routines through the show. Great fun.

This weekend we are at last coming to the end of a nasty bout of 'flu. Today the sun was out so we went up to the Lakes to watch Dave in a Cyclo cross race at Brockhole. Lovely to be out.....

A great moment as the family sit around the table listening to Matt interview his head teacher Mrs Gee as part of his firt appearance on 'Archie and Friends' in his parnership radio channel with 5 yo Archie Stride. Their show goes out every Saturday morning at 1030 for the next few weeks on Diversity Radio and can be heard on line.
