Knockdown in Lockdown

- A tale of homebrew and amateur songwriting, an online lockdown project to raise the spirits and perhaps even raise some money for local charities -

Like many in these strange and difficult times I've found myself turning to Zoom for my social life and have got into a Friday night habit of a social beer at the 'Lune Zoom Arms' with local friends. One of the regular punters, David Jones, is an enthusiastic amateur brewer and offered to make us a special home brew that he could share around the village under the rules of the Lockdown. Naturally we all approved the idea, so much in fact we decided to write and record a song about it. But how this was going to work online? Soon I was in receipt of some excellent lyrics from an anonymous genius Diva Zoom Arms regular.... .

Just like Johnny Cash was inspired by Crescent City Blues, so The Zoom Arms was inspired by Cash's great work. I added a chorus and circulated a scratchy demo, and quickly my inbox filled with amateur performances, ranging from spoons, whistling, flute, guitar, vocals and others. Oh no, what had I got myself into? But soon we had a song, so then needed a video....

So here it is.

All of the writing, playing, singing and editing was a collective effort. Thanks to David Jones, Trevor Manton and all the other locals at the Lune Zoom Arms who contributed. You know who you are, thank you.

We realise of course that we are lucky and for many, recent weeks have been terribly hard, with some losing loved ones. This is intended to raise the spirits and a smile, but does not wish to belittle or overlook the suffering and difficulties many are or have been going through.

So, in raising a smile, perhaps as a bonus we might be able to raise some money as for local Charities along the way? Feel free to laugh with us/at us, and definitely don't take it too seriously please! We hope that any money we raise helps those that are helping those in need in the Morecambe and Lunesdale area through.

Knockdown in Lockdown.   The final, final lyrics.  That’s final.
To the tune of Folsom
Prison Blues:

KEY E – (E, A, B)

SHORT GUITAR
INTRODUCTION, THEN BASS DRUMS AND VOICES ALL IN TOGETHER ON V1….

1.
I’m stuck in the Lune Valley,
don’t know when it will end
Have only sheep to talk to,
I'm going round the bend,
stuck in Lunesdale prison,
and time keeps draggin’
on.......
And the lockdown it keeps
coming, it just goes on and on
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown

2.
Now Dave has an
idea,
he’ll blend a special brew
He’ll make it nice and dandy,
just for the Arkholme crew
But the beer will take a
fortnight,
so Time, it just keeps
draggin’ on.....
and Phil will get the first of
it,
so I’ll be drinking less than
none.
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown

INSTRUMENTAL 1 Flute
Major

3.
But fast forward a
fortnight,
we're gathered here on
Zoom.
With bottle openers ready,
about to toast the Lune.
Anticipation’s rising,
we’re on the verge of a
release.....
But my bladder’s too excited,
I Need to give it temp’ry
peace
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown

INSTRUMENTAL 2  Flute Minor plus whistling

4.
Now all zipped up
and hands washed,
I’m ready for my beer
The boys are raising glasses,
the ecstasy’s quite near
But Prison thoughts return
again, crowding out my happy dream.....
I don’t deserve contentment,
I’ll leave that to the
team.
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown
We're feeling Knockd down
in Lockdown

INSTRUMENTAL 3 Slide
guitar

5. But who’s that storming
forward, with muscles bulging out?
It’s only fighter Michael,
to beat up any doubt
Good times are returning,
so put away the sadness and
that frown.....
And God that beer’s so good
Dave - loving Knockdown in Lockdown.
We're loving Knockdown in
Lockdown.
We're loving Knockdown in
Lockdown.
(SLOWS DOWN ON THE FINAL
ONE)
