A New Years Eve trip to White Scar Caves

, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

Today we went to White Scar Caves near Ingleton it was very good and are tour guide was great at telling the story of the man who found it. Here are some photos of the trip. By Angus

Remembering Sally

Sally was our Guinea Pig and today we had a sad time in Docker, because Sally died of old age. She out lived her sister Rosie who died 2 years earlier.  She was approximately six years old and was a great character.  She would squeak for attention every time we walked past her hutch even if her food and water was full!  It was very sad when she died last night.
By Angus and Dad

Here is a poem by Helen, which she wrote this morning for the funeral in the garden, where she was buried on top of her sister:

Love for Sally -  a Poem by Helen
Squeaker
Amazing
Lovely
Lover
Yes I love you

    love, Helen xx

Angus' trip to Liverpool

Angus' trip to Liverpool, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.
In June 2013, I, Angus, went to Liverpool with my school. We stayed in a youth hostel near the Albert dock and went to places like Anfield and the Anglican cathedral. We also went on the Echo wheel and a bus tour around the city, and a whole lot more, including a visit to China town with a meal. I really enjoyed the trip and especially tacking the photographs myself, which I hope you enjoy here. I also enjoyed doing this blog and I hope you enjoy too!

Autumn Cottage Holiday in Helmsley and North Yorkshire

Untitled, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.
Here we are pictured on Scarborough sea front. - we used to stay in Scarborough as a child and I had happy memories there. We spent 5 nights and days together in a cottage in the pleasant market town of Helmsley, visiting the White Horse at Kilburn and the Mouseman furniture manufacturer. We had a day trip to York including the Railway Museum and a day trip to Whitby and the moors, as well as some Halloween fun. Lovely - all the pictures here.

Get together

Untitled, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

Last weekend I surprised Anne and invited a few old friends from Devon plus my Bro's family to stay for the weekend. We had a wonderful time made better for the brill weather, with a barbi, shopping in KL (for les filles), a trip to the Snug (for the chaps), a bit of jamming, a walk up Gummers How and a trip to the pub. Breakfast in the garden became almost passe over the hot bank holiday. Happy happy days.

Jane and Iain's Wedding

Jane and Iain's Wedding, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

We have just returned from a great weekend, a lovely farm wedding in Devon of Jane and Iain. For Helen it was a 'first' and she was thrilled, along with us all, at the happiness, the 'tractor' departure from the church, the marquee, the hog roast, the barn dance. Great also to see old friends, among many the Cunninghams. Thanks to Anne for doing all the driving for my disability, and looking after us with two nights in a travel lodge to boot.

Every cloud...

Spring 2013, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.
I broke my ribs and collarbone last week in a mountain bike accident. Getting better now. One of the advantages of the incident is that it forced me to stop, to smell the roses is admire the lovely spring in and around the house and valley. Happy days. Every cloud....

Helen's inspiring run

Last weekend Helen did her first fell race at Wray and took part in the U8s event, it was quite a big field and was an event that was an inter club (I think national) championships. As parent I was obviously going to be a bit excited and having recognised some natural ability in her had taken her along to the local running club at Dallam earlier this year. I positioned myself on the first clim with my camera and imagine my excitement when she emerged into view in a commanding 2nd place (see the picture). I snapped away like only an over enthusiastic Dad could do and then sprinted (not as fast as Helen) to the next viewing point of the race ready to see her emerge from the hill back into the village. It was a thrill with my long lens to see her emerge in hot pursuit of the leader, and witness a great battle as Helen tried to make up the gap along the long and winding road through the houses to the finish. She came 2nd and what was so inspiring was the way she really fought so hard for it. Jolly exciting - if you want to see the full set (and I apologise for the number of them, but for geeks the time laps is quite interesting) have a look on the Flickr site. Angus also did the race and finished with respect in the U12s class, suffering a tad because he has moved up to a larger age group. he will have his day again, but meanwhile well done gal!

Congratulations Matt on an amazing Rugby season

Untitled, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

Matt and his team have just finished a most amazing season. First, a couple of weeks ago they won the Cumbria cup final, the end of a knock out tournament and reached the heights of af the best in Cumbria. He has also been selected to play for his South Cumbria District as a platform for possible County next season. And to top it all, at the prize giving for his club last week he got the 'Hard Yards' Trophy from the team coach - one of only 3 prizes given out every year at the prize giving recognizing Matt as an unsung hero of the team Well don Son!

Easter Holidays at the Lakeland Village

As the Easter holidays draw to a close, it's time to reflect on a great couple of weeks. I love this time of years. We took an impromptu holiday staying in a cottage with a pool at Backbarrow only 20 minutes from home, and as well as swimming we went cycling, walking and visited Grizedale and Wray Castle. It felt like a complete break and despite the short distance maned to stay away from all things familiar, great time.

Cumbria Cup Semi Final Victory for Matt

Cumbria Cup Semi Final, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

I was really proud of Matt today, he and his Rugby team beat Cockermouth to win a place in the final of the Cumbria Cup. It was an enthralling, thrilling and totally grown up game of Rugby. Matt, unusually, played number 8, and did a sterling job, away from his usual position of Centre. We were all nearly as tired as Matt having un up and down the touch line! Bring on the final on 21 April!

Nantle Ridge & Snowdon

Nantle Ridge & Snowdon, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

I am just back home from my annual treat of a weekend - a couple of days away with a few blokes walking; this year we went tp Beddgelert in Snowdonia and on Saturday did the Nantle Ridge and on Sunday Snowdon. The weather was absolutely amazing, the company first class and the banter totally boyish. Lucky chap. Therapy.

Tom Sarah, Robbie and David visit at half term

Untitled, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.
last week the Bells ventured north to stay in Docker and were greeted by some typical Northern weather - sun sun and blue skies! We ate and drank far too much and mixed in a bit of walking on Loughrigg (pictured here), a visit to Sedbergh and Dent. A bonus extra bit of icing on the cake was that Dave C was also able to join us for a night - now based at Bangor. Great days, great photos too - see the link here.

New school for Matt

, originally uploaded by Phil Haygarth.

Matt started his new school on Monday. Although he was understandably apprehensive about the change, he got through the first week in great shape and seems relaxed and happy with his new routine. School bus service door to door, school only 5 miles away, lots of friends nearby, great school.....
